After reviewing the challenging topics your colleagues have identified, make a suggestion as to how this specific challenge can be overcome.
I feel that this specific challenge (Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship) can be overcome by learning more about the Canadian government, as well as what each political party is fighting for prior to an election. It is important keep oneself up to date on political parties, with the purpose of voting for the party you feel would best serve our country. Something that I will need to work on in particular, is paying more attention to politics, as this is not something I pay close attention to currently. Prior to voting, I read summaries in regards to what the political parties are promising to do for the country. I feel like this is just a small step in becoming aware because it is essentially a summary, rather than keeping up with the parties in advance. I could pay closer attention to the news to hear more about these stories also. One important thing to consider is which parties are “bashing” other parties in commercials, as opposed to simply sharing with the viewers their opinions/stance on current issues that they are hoping to resolve. Therefore, I think that in order to overcome this challenge, I need to become more politically aware of what is going on in the government, through the news for instance, as well as find out more about each individual party, rather than just listening to the gossip about the leaders of the political parties, that is spewed out of the mouths of their competitors. I feel like once I get a grasp on this, that I can better teach a course that involves politics.
