Reflection:
I struggled for awhile with this assignment. I had to seek help from my
professor, in order to figure out why I could not find lesson plans for the
Geography strand that my group's Unit Plan is covering. We determined that my
search engines were too broad, so I had to rework my searching a lot for this
assignment. I struggled with really narrowing down my search, which ended up
being a process that took several hours to do, just to find the lesson plan.
This definitely served as a learning experience and an area to grow for myself.
Even though I have never encountered an assignment like this one, I will always
need to know how to search for anything on the web. Therefore, not only did I
learn how to pick apart a lesson plan to review it, I also learned a skill that
I will need for the rest of my education, as well as my career. The skill I am
referring to is how to properly perform a search online. Overall, I was really
stressed over this assignment because I put approximately 10 hours into
searching for a lesson plan, but I got a lot out of it too. Aside from
realizing my mistakes when trying to perform a search, I also learned how to
think creatively and offer extensions to existing lesson plans, so that they
better suit what I am hoping to achieve by using them. On a final note, I was
provided with the feedback that it is okay to express vulnerability and to ask
questions when you need clarification. This is all part of a learning process
and it is better to be aided in the right direction than to leave your
questions unheard. Luckily my professor is welcoming to communication via
email, so it is "easy" to ask these questions. Therefore, I learned
far more than why this lesson plan is innovative (which was the assignment),
and more about myself as a student and future educator.
